(ProsperNews.net) – The body of a 5-year-old boy was discovered in a dumpster in Milwaukee a day after he was reported missing. Prince McCree was found covered in blood, gagged, and “in the fetal position” in the West Vliet Street area of the city. Police arrested 15-year-old Erik Mendoza and 27-year-old David Pietura in connection with the boy’s death. They were charged with first-degree intentional homicide and held in detention on $500,000 bonds.
Prince’s family told reporters that police would not issue an “amber alert” on the child because he didn’t “meet the criteria.” An amber alert is an emergency response procedure that calls on the public to help authorities locate a missing person. Wisconsin Senator LaToya Johnson said the family told her, “If this was a little White boy, more would be done.”
Under Wisconsin law, to qualify for an amber alert, the missing person must be under 17 and in danger of severe harm or death, and there should be “descriptive information about the child, the suspect, and/or the suspect vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help locate the child,” according to the Justice Department. Senator Johnson said the amber alert request may have been denied because there was no suspect or suspicious vehicle involved with the child’s disappearance.
Senator Johnson said, “This tragedy is just horrific and sad in all proportions. His family, they are taking it extremely hard. They’re struggling.”
Pietura and Mendoza lived with the child’s family and reportedly beat the child to death in the home’s basement. Despite his age, Mendoza was charged as an adult and is also suspected of several other violent incidents, including stabbing assaults on strangers. Police documents stated that Mendoza attacked people because he was “bored.”
Prince was murdered when he stayed home from school, complaining of a sore throat. His mother went to sleep at around 9 am, and when she awoke at 1 pm, the child had disappeared.
