(ProsperNews.net) – A Republican official’s wife has been found guilty of electoral fraud in Iowa. Kim Phuong Taylor, wife of Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, was convicted on 26 charges of filing false information in registering and voting, 23 charges of fraudulent voting, and three charges of fraudulent registration.
The Department of Justice accused Taylor of “generating votes” during the 2020 4th Congressional District election in 2020 and again in the County Supervisor poll later the same year. Media reports from Iowa say Taylor forged signatures on voting affidavits, illegally filled out voting materials, and “failed to translate warnings that her victims could not vote for her family members.”
Taylor, a native of Vietnam, was found guilty of approaching Vietnamese residents, who spoke little English, and voting on their behalf. While she potentially faces a lengthy prison term, state attorneys did not seek her immediate detention.
Prosecutors initially named Mr. Taylor an unindicted co-conspirator but did not charge him, and he was not called upon to testify in his wife’s trial. However, the Board of Supervisors chairman accused Mr. Taylor of letting his wife take the rap for his criminal behavior, while others called on him to resign.
The verdict comes only days after a Connecticut judge ordered an election re-run in Bridgeport. The judge issued the order after seeing video footage allegedly showing a supporter of incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim stuffing a ballot box with envelopes. Media reports said just 420 people apparently cast 1,255 votes. The Ganim staff member in the video was named as Wanda Geter-Pataky.
Connecticut Superior Court Judge William Clark said, “The videos are shocking to the court and should be shocking to all the parties.”
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim was first elected in 1991 and served until 2003 before commencing a nine-year prison term for mail fraud, racketeering, bribery, conspiracy, and filing false income tax returns. Republican Senate Minority Leader Kevin Kelly said the video footage confirmed GOP fears about the misuse of absentee ballots.
