(ProsperNews.net) – Former President Barack Obama regularly speaks to White House chief of staff Jeff Zients about the prospect of a second Trump Presidency, according to the New York Times. The calls reportedly center around how President Biden can defeat the Trump challenge, with Obama advising on campaigns and strategy.
An Obama aide told the New York Times that the former President is very concerned about a second Trump victory and is working to assist the Biden campaign in any way he can.
The Times report further claims that Biden and Obama are in regular communication and that President Biden also routinely seeks advice from Bill Clinton. Among the advice offered by Obama is a recommendation that Biden should be more aggressive. At a March White House meeting, Mr. Obama praised Biden’s State of the Union address for its targeting of Trump and policy clarity. Obama also advised the President to empower his Delaware campaign office to make decisions without seeking permission and approval from the White House.
During a separate private lunch earlier this year, Obama told Biden that his campaign was uninspiring and unstable and warned the President that Trump was in his strongest position yet.
Polling through the early part of 2024 provides mixed results, although the Wall Street Journal in early April placed Trump ahead in most crucial swing states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. However, a Morning Consult national poll conducted toward the end of March sees Biden in front by 44% to 42%.
Moreover, the advantages appear to change from month to month. For example, in February, media reports emphasized Trump’s lead in swing states, but the following month, this had turned in the opposite direction. By the end of March, Biden was showing a polling comeback in Wisconsin, going from a 4% deficit in February to a 1% lead last month. Trump’s lead in Michigan and Pennsylvania also dropped, and the two men were polling equally.
