(ProsperNews.net) – The National Rifle Association (NRA) has lashed out at the Biden administration’s latest gun control proposals. The Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) agency proposes to expand the definition of the word “dealer” to anyone who “sells or offers for sale firearms, and also represents to potential buyers or otherwise demonstrates a willingness and ability to purchase and sell additional firearms.” The ATF furthermore wants to incorporate the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, meaning people who exchange guns for something other than money are also included in the definition.
The NRA said the ATF regulations would cause confusion, and sellers would not know which transactions required a federal arms license. It would therefore constitute an interference with Second Amendment Rights. A federal firearms license is currently required by anyone who plans to establish a business selling, manufacturing, or importing firearms.
The National Rifle Association has not only accused the federal agencies of interfering with Second Amendment rights, but of scapegoating law-abiding Americans while allowing criminals to run wild. Executive Director Randy Kozuch said the government is “soft on crime” and authorities would be better off going after real criminals rather than punishing gun owners.
President Biden has promised to reduce gun control rights since entering the White House, and specifically targets “assault weapons” for prohibition. Last year, however, in a landmark ruling, the US Supreme Court determined that gun rights should expand, rather than retract, and the NRA argues that the ATF proposals on buying and selling legal firearms selling disregards the Supreme Court’s ruling.
In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, the Justices struck down the element of New York State’s concealed carry law that required individuals to provide “proper cause” before they are permitted to carry. The Supreme Court said this was unconstitutional and countered the intention of the Second Amendment.
The ruling was considered the most significant advancement in gun ownership rights in the United States for decades.
