(ProsperNews.net) – There is more bad news for major Hollywood studios as the latest superhero movie flopped. The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, cost around $200 million to produce but took just $55 million in its opening week. That disappointment was compounded when earnings dropped by 72% in week two, taking in $15 million.
The film joins a growing list of productions to lose millions of dollars at the box office. Pixar, owned by Disney, has recently suffered the worst opening for a film in its decades-long history. Elemental, an animated story about a character made of water who falls in love with a character made of fire, is intended to examine multiculturalism and the immigrant experience. The film also features the studio’s first “non-binary” character.
Pixar has suffered serious losses in the past couple of years for what critics describe as excessively “woke” output. Its previous two releases, Lightyear and Strange World featured woke messaging, resulting in a more than $300 million loss for Disney. Both movies included gay relationship plot lines.
While The Flash has not received similar criticism, some commentators have suggested that its lackluster performance at the box office may be the result of Ezra Miller’s off-screen behavior. The actor has a long history of run-ins with law enforcement.
Last August, he pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol from a neighbor’s home in Vermont and was arrested twice in Hawaii. In one incident, he got into an altercation at a bar and flew into a rage when a police officer called him “sir.” He replied telling the officer he is not a “sir” but is transgender and non-binary. He continued, “That is an act of intentional bigotry, and it is a technical hate crime under U.S. federal law. Please call me they/them/their.”
A couple filed a restraining order against Miller for allegedly breaking into their bedroom and stealing their passports last March, and a second couple in North Dakota said he plied their underage daughter with alcohol and drugs.
