(ProsperNews.net) – The vast majority of Americans think Joe Biden is too old to be US President. An Ipsos poll published on February 11 found that 86% believe the US President has memory and cognitive difficulties and should not serve another term. The poll was conducted after the Special Counsel investigation into the President’s handling of classified documents concluded that he would not be prosecuted because a jury would sympathize with him and see him as an old man with memory problems.
The 86% result is a significant rise from the 74% who thought the President too old last September and includes 73% of Democrats and 91% of independents. Biden is already the oldest person ever to occupy the Oval Office, and if re-elected in November, he will be 86 at the end of his second term. Speculation about his mental acuity has plagued his Presidency, which is marked by consistent, sometimes serious, verbal gaffes and apparent confusion.
Senior Democrats reacted furiously to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, with Kamala Harris denouncing it as “politically motivated” and “inappropriate.” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended the President and described him as sharp, focused, and detail-orientated.
Vice President Harris, while denouncing Hur’s remarks, simultaneously stated that she is ready to step into the President’s shoes should it prove necessary. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Harris said there is “no doubt” that she is ready for the Presidency, lending weight to Nikki Haley’s claim that a vote for Joe Biden in November is actually a vote for Kamala Harris.
Donald Trump said Robert Hur’s report had let the President get off “scot-free” for mishandling documents while he is facing criminal charges. “If Joe Biden is not fit to charge, they are not going to judge him with a crime, but it’s OK for him to become commander in chief?” Trump asked.
The former President was charged with several offenses for keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
