(ProsperNews.net) – Marjorie Taylor Greene is under fire for suggesting the breakup of the United States. On the 9/11 anniversary, the Georgia Republican took to Twitter to say that Americans are “drowning” because of President Biden’s open border policies and that if the administration “refuses to stop the invasion of cartel-led human and drug trafficking into our country, states should consider seceding from the union.”
It is not the first time Taylor Greene has floated the provocative idea. In February, she publicly advocated a “national divorce,” saying red states should split from blue states and create a separate country. Following widespread criticism, she said it is President Biden dividing the nation and blamed the “woke culture issues shoved down our throats” and the Democrats’ “America last” policies.
Taylor Greene maintains that millions of people approve of her viewpoint, and New York Times columnist David French agreed. He said her remarks represent a “very real part of the right.”
When she tweeted her call for secession on 9/11, several Twitter users backed her up. “That would be a good idea,” wrote one, while another simply said, “Agreed.” An organization known as the Texas Nationalist Movement (TEXIT) replied saying, “We couldn’t agree more, Congresswoman.” The group is campaigning for a ballot to determine the future of the Lone Star State and believes it would be better off outside the USA.
Such a proposal was previously presented on Capitol Hill but died with no support. HB 1359 was introduced in 2021 by Republican Representative Kyle Biedermann to advance the “discussion of Texas becoming a self-governing independent nation.”
Also in 2021, a startling survey found great sympathy for a conversation about a US separation. A poll by the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia found that 50% of Trump voters and 40% of Biden voters agreed there was merit in considering the secession of states. Most opponents cite the practical impediments to breakup, while others say the notion is deeply unpatriotic.
