Mom Raising Funeral Funds Passes Away, Family Confirms

(ProsperNews.net) – Erika Diarte-Carr, a 33-year-old single mother of two from Utah who had been raising money for her own funeral after a devastating cancer diagnosis, has passed away, her family confirmed. Diarte-Carr was diagnosed in May 2022 with stage 4 small cell lung carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. By the time doctors discovered it, the cancer had metastasized to other parts of her body, including her bones.

In the wake of her diagnosis, Diarte-Carr started a GoFundMe campaign, hoping to raise $5,000 to cover her end-of-life expenses. However, the campaign garnered overwhelming support, raising more than $1.17 million as of October 14. This outpouring of donations reflected the deep sympathy and support from people moved by her story.

In September, doctors told Diarte-Carr that she had only three months left to live. Her cousin, Angelique Rivera, announced Erika’s passing on Facebook on Saturday. “It is with a heavy heart that this is the final update I will be giving for my cousin Erika,” Rivera wrote. “She fought a long and hard battle. She was strong and held on as long as she could for her babies.”

Diarte-Carr is survived by her two young children, 7-year-old Jeremiah and 5-year-old Aaliyah. Throughout her struggle, she remained focused on her children, determined to hold on for as long as possible. Her family expressed deep gratitude for the love, support, and prayers that came from so many during her battle.
