Mitt Romney Rules Out a Bid for the Presidency

(ProsperNews.net) – According to Senator Mitt Romney’s chief of staff, Romney will not launch a presidential bid after leaving his position in the Senate. The announcement comes just weeks after rumors about a potential Mitt Romney presidential campaign began, as many voters believed Romney’s decision to retire stemmed from a desire to run for higher office. Romeny’s staff is now dispelling the rumors, and claims the Utah senator never intended to run for president.

Speculation about a Romney presidential campaign increased after an FEC filing known as the “Draft Romney Manchin Committee,” which indicated Romney intended to run alongside Democratic Senator Joe Manchin. Manchin is also retiring from his position in the senate, so the filing prompted rumors that the two senators planned a third-party presidential race. Both senators deny having any such plan, and claim they are unaware of who created the FEC filing.

Another reason many citizens believed Romney sought a presidential campaign is his outspoken criticisms of former president Donald Trump. Romney regularly discusses Trump and his political platform, and claims that Trump is a “failure of character.”

During his farewell announcement Romney spoke about Trump, and his claim that climate change isn’t real, stating that the former president isn’t a proper leader for the Republican Party. Romney also criticized President Joe Biden during his farewell address, and said that Biden’s leadership isn’t confronting “critical challenges” in the United States.

Trump responded to Romney’s resignation with celebration, claiming that Romney’s retirement is fantastic news for American citizens, Utah, and the GOP. Trump is known for calling out Romney and insulting the retiring senator, going so far as to call Romney a “loser” in the past. Despite Trump’s celebration over Romney’s decision to leave office, the open Senate seat is a cause for concern amongst the GOP.

Romney leaving office opens a Republican Senate position to opposition, allowing a Democrat to potentially win the seat and increase the Democratic Party’s majority in the Congressional body. Republicans currently maintain a slim majority in the House of Representatives, but the dominant party in the Senate is the Democratic Party. Without another Republican winning Romney’s seat, the Democrats could increase their lead over Republican lawmakers going into next year’s presidential election.
