(ProsperNews.net) – British TV doctor Michael Mosley has been found dead on a Greek Island. Lefteris Papakalodoukas, Mayor of Symi island, said the 67-year-old appeared to have fallen down a slope near Agia Marina beach, where the Mayor and journalists discovered him after rescue teams combed the island for five days. Officials say he died from natural causes brought about by a long walk in 40-degree centigrade heat. He did not have a cell phone or water in his possession when he was found.
CCTV cameras captured the doctor’s final hours and recorded him walking purposely toward rocky terrain with an umbrella to shield from the heat. Mayor Papakalodoukas initially speculated that Mosley could have suffered a snake bite as Symi is home to Europe’s most dangerous snake, the Ottoman Viper.
Rescue teams focused their initial efforts on a cave complex known as The Abyss – a network of tunnels running under water bodies – but failed to uncover any sign of the doctor or clues as to his whereabouts. Eventually, Mayor Papakalodoukas and a British reporter spotted what appeared to be a body on a beach just 90 meters from a restaurant.
Dr. Mosley’s wife, Claire Bailey, also a doctor, released a statement saying that she and their children took comfort in “the fact that he so nearly made it.” She added that her husband was an adventurous man, and that was part of what made him special.
The couple met while training at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School in London in 1987.
Dr. Mosley would go on to enjoy a long career with the BBC, producing several science and medicine-based documentaries, including The Human Face and Inventions That Changed the World.
In 2007, he debuted in front of the cameras when he hosted Medical Mavericks. The show was a success, and others soon followed. In 2011, he produced and presented The Brain: A Secret History, an in-depth examination of the history of psychology and neurology.
