(ProsperNews.net) – The US Navy SEALs who went missing while investigating a ship off the Somali coast have been confirmed dead. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that after a ten-day search for the two SEALS, they had not been located, and their “status has been changed to deceased.”
The SEALS were dragged underwater by waves on January 11 while traveling to a ship believed to be transporting Iranian weapons to Yemen. CENTCOM said teams from the US, Spain, and Japan searched 21,000 square miles of the Red Sea to find the men, but to no avail. The Pentagon identified the SEALS as Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher Chambers and Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram, aged 37 and 27.
“Chris and Gage selflessly served their country with unwavering professionalism and exceptional capabilities,” said Captain Blake Chaney, the commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 1.
Officials later confirmed that the ship was carrying components for ballistic and cruise missiles, which were on their way to Yemen for use by the Iranian proxy Houthi rebels, who are attacking ships in the Red Sea as revenge for Western support for Israel. The SEALS approached the ship under cover of darkness, but eight-foot waves dragged one under water, and the other jumped in to rescue him.
Mr. Chambers, from Maryland, joined the Navy in 2021, having served the SEALs on the US West Coast since 2014. He was awarded four Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medals throughout his career, including one with a Combat Action Ribbon. Mr. Ingram enlisted in 2019 and completed his SEAL training two years later. He had received a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Service Medal and the National Defence Service Medal. He was from Illinois.
President Biden released a statement thanking the two men for their service and said, “Jill and I are mourning the tragic deaths of two of America’s finest.” He described the SEALS as “the very best of our country.”
