McCarthy Says Trump Indictment Meant to Distract from Biden

(ProsperNews.net) – Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is defending the embattled former President and said the latest indictment is merely an attempt to distract Americans from the corruption in the White House. McCarthy said indicting Trump would not stop the GOP from exposing the shady business dealings of Hunter Biden and the Biden family.

In a tweet, Mr. McCarthy repeated claims that Hunter Biden received money from foreign countries and companies, including China and Ukraine, while Biden Senior was Vice President. These revelations became public during testimony to the Republican-led House Oversight Committee investigating the Biden family’s business activities. The Speaker also mentioned testimony alleging President Biden spoke to Hunter Biden’s business associates by speaker-phone at board meetings on more than twenty occasions.

McCarthy concluded his post by insisting the Department of Justice (DOJ), which Republicans believe is weaponized against them, is distracting the public with its continued pursuit of Donald Trump. “Everyone in America could see what was going to come next: DOJ’s attempt to distract from the news and attack the front-runner for the Republican nomination, President Trump,” McCarthy wrote.

Most Republicans reacted with fury when news broke of another set of criminal charges facing the former President. Mr. Trump must defend against four new counts related to January 6. House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik said the DOJ was corrupted and politicized, and the prosecution was a sham.

“President Trump had every right under the First Amendment to correctly raise concerns about election integrity in 2020. Despite the DOJ’s illegal attempt to interfere in the 2024 election on behalf of Joe Biden, President Trump continues to skyrocket in the polls,” she said.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise asked why the DOJ is content to agree plea deals with Hunter Biden but throws all possible charges at President Trump.

Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said Democrats know they won’t beat Mr. Trump at the ballot box, “so they’re trying to take him out with criminal charges.”
