(ProsperNews.net) – Chicago’s left-wing Mayor, Brandon Johnson, raged at a reporter during a recent press conference and said he would not visit the porous US southern border because he has a black wife and black children. The Mayor, known for race-based rhetoric, stated he would take a trip to the border last October but later canceled and sent Beatriz Ponce de Leon, the deputy mayor of immigrant, migrant and refugee rights, in his place.
Reporters have asked the Mayor repeatedly if he intends to reschedule the trip, and on February 5, the question came again, but Johnson responded with evident frustration, saying he is unable to give a date because he has family with schedules to keep, he has to address the city’s budget, public safety, homelessness, and he is “doing all of that with a black wife raising three black children on the West Side of Chicago.”
Johnson has faced much criticism over high levels of migration to the self-described sanctuary city, with many black voters expressing anger that illegal migrants are catered to while they go without. In December, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent a busload of border crossers to the Windy City, as he has done to several other Democrat-led areas with leaders who do not cooperate with federal immigration agencies and provide overstretched resources to accommodate migrants.
Last October, news emerged that Chicago officials were meeting with their counterparts in St. Louis, Missouri, to discuss moving some migrants south. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones launched an “Office of New Americans” aimed at helping illegal migrants, and Karlos Ramirez, vice president of Latino outreach for the International Institute, said the Missouri city was the perfect place to accommodate them. “St. Louis is going to be in a better place, and Chicago is going to be in a better place. I think everybody wins,” Ramirez said.
There has been no further word about the St. Louis plans since October, and the idea appears to have fizzled out.
