(ProsperNews.net) – Following a manhunt last Thursday, Arizona authorities tracked down and arrested a suspect who allegedly threatened to assassinate former President Donald Trump at one of his campaign events.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office announced that they arrested a local man who threatened to kill Trump. The suspect is Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, who was taken into custody around 2:30 PM that day after spending two previous days posting threatening messages on his social media pages targeting the former president.
Syvrud had separate outstanding warrants against him, according to the sheriff’s office, one of which was also in the Copper State for hit-and-run in Graham County and for failing to register as a sex offender. The other was from Wisconsin for a DUI and skipping the court appearance.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections listed Syvrud on their registry after he was charged with sexually assaulting a child; he was listed with an address in Arizona. As recently as June, he was charged with assault but the charges were dropped the following month. The sheriff’s announcement said they arrested Syrund for “threats to kill a presidential candidate” and additional charges are pending. Trump was later confirmed as the target.
The news strikes close to Trump’s and his supporters’ fear right now in the wake of the assassination attempt on him on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, at an outdoor rally. Since then, Trump has only appeared at in-door events until Wednesday, Aug. 21, when he attended an outdoor rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, where he stood at the podium behind a bulletproof glass wall
The next day, Aug. 22, Trump visited Cochise County, Arizona, to see the southern border sector there while Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to accept her party’s nomination.
Reporters asked Trump about the manhunt but he appeared unaware. Trump told the reporter that he had not heard of the threats and said if true then both of them were probably in danger just standing there. Trump also praised the Secret Service agents who jumped on top of him when bullets were flying and said he has a great deal of respect for them. Trump also told the reporter that bad guys want to get him because he wants “to do things that are very bad” for them once in office again.
