Major Shooting at Tennessee State University: 1 Killed, 9 Wounded

(ProsperNews.net) – Nashville authorities are continuing their investigation after a tragic shooting near Tennessee State University (TSU) on Saturday evening left one person dead and several others wounded. The incident occurred shortly before a homecoming football game between TSU and Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium, around 5:10 p.m.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) provided an update on Sunday, identifying the deceased victim as 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson. In total, nine others were injured in the shooting, including three juveniles—two 14-year-olds and a 12-year-old—who were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

During a briefing on Saturday night, MNPD Public Information Officer Brooke Reese confirmed the number of victims. “At this point, there are 10 victims that have been confirmed to have been involved in that gunfire, one of which is deceased,” Reese said. She added that five of the injured individuals were transported to local hospitals by the Nashville Fire Department, while the other five were taken by private vehicles.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell condemned the violence during a TSU homecoming event on Sunday. “What was a joyous atmosphere is tonight very different because of a senseless act of violence carried out by people who didn’t care who else might be caught in the crossfire,” O’Connell said, reflecting the community’s sorrow and frustration.

Police are currently searching for two suspects believed to be involved in the shooting. One of the nine wounded individuals may have been involved in the gunfire, according to authorities, but no arrests have been made so far.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
