(ProsperNews.net) – The owner of a hotel on Long Island is puzzled that the Mayor of New York City has not taken up his offer to house migrants. Gary Melius owns the Oheka Castle in Huntington, Long Island, as well as the Quality Inn in Massena near the Canadian border. He said he had contacted Eric Adams’ administration offering accommodations, but nobody has responded.
“I keep trying. We could take 180 people. I don’t get it. It doesn’t make sense to me. My place is quite ideal,” Melius said. He added that his hotel is in the center of town and the influx would benefit the local economy, which he described as a “win-win.”
Melius said he finds the rejection of his offer quite odd, considering the disintegrating migrant situation in the Big Apple and the lack of facilities to house migrants in the self-declared sanctuary city. Homeless shelters in New York and many hotels are full, so illegal immigrants have taken to sleeping on the city’s sidewalks. According to footage published by the New York Post, parts of Manhattan, usually more at home on movie and TV sets, now look like a third-world country.
Some migrants who spoke to the Post even said they regretted the decision to come to America. Abderahim Mahamat Saleh from the Central African Republic said, “I came to New York City because I thought there would be help. I wish I didn’t come to New York.”
Since last spring, almost 100,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in New York City, and Mayor Eric Adams said the influx is destroying it. He has attempted to ship migrants out to Upstate locations, but many small towns have hit back, saying NYC wanted the immigrants, so NYC should have them.
In June, Mayor Adams suggested New Yorkers should take migrants into their homes. He is also raising taxes, rents are high, and New Yorkers are footing the bill to keep foreign citizens in rent-free accommodation.
