(ProsperNews.net) – The lawsuit against music star Lizzo has derailed her hopes for a Super Bowl performance. An NFL insider said the star was in the running, along with five other musicians, to headline the halftime performance. “Talks of Lizzo being a part of the Halftime festivities, or performing the National Anthem, are dead now that she is surrounded by scandal,” the source said.
The Detroit-born musician, who shot to fame in the late 2010s with hits including Cuz I Love You, suffered a humiliating public bashing from some of her backing dancers when they filed a lawsuit alleging harassment and even “fat shaming.” This could be particularly damaging to Lizzo, who is large, because she has consistently promoted a message of body positivity and self-esteem.
The accusations include forcing dancers to participate in live adult shows in an Amsterdam strip club, insulting and humiliating performers, and dropping hints about her dancers’ weight gain. The initial complaints were registered by three dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, but in recent weeks, more have come forward to make similar claims.
Ron Zambrano, the attorney representing the dancers, said he is now looking into allegations from six more people who have previously worked with the singer. “Some of the claims we are reviewing may be actionable, but it is too soon to say,” he said on August 8.
Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, denies any wrongdoing. She said she would not ordinarily respond to criticisms on her Instagram account, but these were so outrageous that she felt compelled to set the record straight. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional,” she said.
However, a former creative director Quinn Wilson said she agreed with the complainants about Lizzo’s inappropriate behavior, while a filmmaker who has also worked with the star went public and said she was “arrogant, unkind, and cruel.”
