(ProsperNews.net) – New York Attorney General Letitia James said she would seize Donald Trump’s assets if he did not pay a $355 million fine. During an interview with ABC News, James confirmed that if the former President can’t afford to pay, she will “seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court” and ask a judge to take Trump’s assets, including his extensive real estate portfolio in New York City.
The size of the fine, which Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron imposed when he found Trump had been fraudulent in the valuation of his properties, is subject to interest and will grow by more than $87,000 per day until it is paid. Mr. Trump can appeal the ruling but must pay the fine first.
The judgment against the Republican primary frontrunner came just weeks after another judge ordered him to pay more than $83 million to author E. Jean Carroll, who used Mr. Trump for defamation. The former President is also reportedly amassing enormous legal fees as he faces criminal charges in his home state and in Georgia. His exact wealth is unknown, but on a yearly financial statement in 2021, he reported that he had $294 million in cash.
Letitia James is taking a running toll on the interest accruing Trump’s fine. On Twitter, she posted several times, noting the size of the interest and how fast it is growing. Several people have replied to her posts, calling her unprofessional and urging an investigation into her conduct. High-profile lawyer and Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz said James should “ought to be brought up before the bar” because she made clear in the past that her mission was to destroy Mr. Trump.
Some Republicans have suggested that James’ Twitter conduct could aid a Trump appeal, as he argues that James is motivated by politics and her action against him was intended to disrupt his political campaigns. Mr. Dershowitz agreed and said the justice system has been politicized.
