(ProsperNews.net) – America First Legal (AFL) has filed a lawsuit against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, seeking records of any communications related to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump between Bragg’s team and various political entities, including the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Convention (DNC), and other groups. The lawsuit, filed on Monday, aims to uncover potential political coordination that could have influenced the case against Trump.
AFL is requesting documents and communication between Bragg’s office and the Biden-Harris campaign, the DNC, Color of Change, and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). The lawsuit also seeks records of any efforts to raise funds connected to Trump’s prosecution in New York v. Trump. Additionally, AFL is interested in any communication between Bragg’s office and Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, who runs a Democrat-affiliated consulting firm, Authentic Campaigns.
Dan Epstein, Vice President of AFL, emphasized the need for transparency from Bragg’s office, stating, “The public record now reveals a direct contradiction between statements from the U.S. Department of Justice and Bragg’s own office about coordination between the two.” Epstein suggested that groups like Color of Change, which AFL describes as a far-left, Soros-funded organization, may have coordinated efforts between Washington, D.C., and New York City regarding Trump’s prosecution.
Color of Change, which has met with President Biden and Vice President Harris multiple times, previously called Trump’s prosecution the “fruit of our labor.” AFL is investigating whether such groups had any undue influence on Bragg’s office, potentially compromising the impartiality of the judicial process.
AFL’s legal actions are part of a broader investigation into what it sees as politically motivated prosecutions and the weaponization of the justice system. Recently, AFL also sued Judge Juan Merchan for refusing to release his financial disclosures, amid questions about his daughter’s work at Authentic Campaigns. Under New York law, judges are required to file annual financial disclosures that should be available upon request.
In the trial that concluded in May, Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree after a six-week trial. Trump has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team is appealing the verdict. Judge Merchan granted Trump’s request to delay sentencing until after the 2024 presidential election, with sentencing set for November 26.
The ongoing lawsuits underscore AFL’s broader concerns about the impartiality of the prosecution and whether political biases have influenced the legal proceedings against the former president.
