(ProsperNews.net) – Vice President Kamala Harris raised more than $80 million in the opening 24 hours of her White House campaign. This rose to over $100 million within 36 hours, breaking new fundraising records. The Harris campaign told reporters that 888,000 people made small donations, and 62% of the total came from first-time donors. Spokesperson Kevin Munoz said the Vice President had received the support of “a broad and diverse coalition.”
Since President Joe Biden announced he would not stand for re-election, Ms. Harris has enjoyed an explosion in support, winning endorsements from key Democratic party figures and showing a lead over Trump in early polls. An Ipsos/Reuters survey in the opening days of her campaign placed the Vice President ahead of Donald Trump by 44% to 42%. In a separate CNN/SSRS poll, Harris leads by 49% to 46% and by 47% to 45% in a Morning Consult ballot.
The Trump campaign is reportedly telling its backers that Harris is enjoying a “bump” and that the former President expects to be topping the polls again when the initial excitement about Harris’s campaign dissipates.
Nevertheless, separate polling suggests that Harris’s age is playing a significant role in her early lead. For instance, 56% of voters agreed that the Vice President is “mentally sharp” enough to occupy the Oval Office, whereas just 22% believe the same about Donald Trump. Additionally, 87% said President Biden’s decision to stand aside for Vice President Harris was the right one. A further 65% of Democrats think Harris’s candidacy has increased the party’s chances of success in November.
In her first rally in Wisconsin, Ms. Harris signaled her plan of attack against Donald Trump by comparing her past as a prosecutor with the former President’s criminal conviction. “I know Trump’s type,” she told a roaring crowd.
In North Carolina, Donald Trump told his supporters that Harris is a “radical” left-winger who made socialist Senator Bernie Sanders “look like a moderate.”
