(ProsperNews.net) – Ron Busby, a prominent Black business leader and ally of Vice President Kamala Harris, has come under scrutiny for his 2017 business trip to China, during which he met with several Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. Busby, the president of the U.S. Black Chambers, traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an with a delegation that included New York officials and business leaders. The trip was facilitated by the Chinese Consulate in New York and supported by the New York in China Center, which has offices in both New York and Shanghai.
Busby’s trip, previously unreported, included meetings with CCP officials such as Li Yuan, the Vice Mayor of Xi’an, and representatives from the People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, a group scrutinized by the U.S. for foreign influence activities. During his trip, Busby emphasized the importance of partnerships between the U.S., Africa, and China, stating that these regions “need each other for the new sustainability.” He also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce to foster cooperation among the three regions.
Busby’s relationship with the Biden-Harris administration has been significant. He has visited the White House numerous times and participated in key meetings with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and other senior officials, advocating for Black business interests. In July 2024, Harris hosted a reception at her private residence in honor of Black business leaders, where Busby was a featured guest. She has publicly praised Busby as an “extraordinary leader” noted in this report.
These ties come as Vice President Harris faces criticism for selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz has faced scrutiny over his long-standing ties to China, complicating Harris’ campaign amid rising concerns about foreign influence. The revelation of Busby’s meetings with CCP officials may further exacerbate these concerns as Harris heads into the final stretch of her campaign according to recent reports.
This raises questions about the extent of Busby’s and other U.S. business leaders’ connections with China, and how these relationships align with broader U.S. political and economic interests.
