Plouffe, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, wrote on June 13, 2016, “It is not enough to simply beat Trump. He must be destroyed thoroughly. His kind must not rise again.” The Trump campaign quickly pointed to this statement following Sunday’s failed assassination attempt, where Secret Service agents thwarted an armed suspect who aimed a rifle at Trump while he was golfing at his private course in Florida.
“This guy is now a top official on Kamala Harris’ campaign,” the Trump campaign posted, drawing attention to Plouffe’s role and his past comments.

A bullet grazed Trump’s ear, and the attack tragically resulted in the death of an innocent bystander, Corey Comperatore, and injuries to two others.
The series of violent attempts on Trump’s life has amplified concerns about the divisive and hostile political environment in the United States.
