Judge’s Ruling Favors Fani Willis in Trump Case

(ProsperNews.net) – Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has ruled that District Attorney Fani Willis can continue with pre-trial motions related to Donald Trump’s co-defendants. These were paused to await the results of the former President’s appeal against a ruling that allowed Willis to pursue the case despite her relationship with fellow attorney Nathan Wade.

The GOP Presidential candidate and several co-defendants face numerous charges in Georgia related to the 2020 White House race. His attorneys filed a motion to remove Fani Willis from the case, describing her as “compromised” by her relationship with fellow attorney Nathan Wade, whom she hired to work on the Trump prosecution while the couple were romantically involved. After days of dramatic testimony, Judge McAfee determined that Willis could remain in charge of the prosecution, but only if Mr. Wade stepped aside.

Mr. Trump’s attorneys subsequently appealed that ruling, and the Appeals Court placed a pause on proceedings, which McAfee has now overturned. Analysts say the latest decision represents a victory for Ms. Willis, who hoped to bring the case to court before the Presidential election in November.

The former President, along with 18 co-defendants, are accused of trying to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the Peach State. The indictment includes charges under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, as well as soliciting a public officer to violate their oath, forgery, and filing false documents. Defendants include former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, several of Trump’s former lawyers, and campaign staffer Mike Roman, who filed the initial motion to remove Fani Willis from the case.

Mr. Roman alleged that Willis hired Nathan Wade as a special prosecutor because they were romantically involved. He also claimed that the pair enjoyed lavish vacations on the money she paid him for his work on the case. Willis admitted the relationship but insisted both parties funded the trips to California and Florida equally. Mr. Wade also admitted the affair.
