(ProsperNews.net) – Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter has capitalized on her father’s famous Manhattan trial and made $100 million. Merchan is overseeing the “hush money” case against former President Donald Trump in New York and has clashed with Mr. Trump numerous times. His daughter Loren Merchan has reportedly profited via her political consultancy firm and used the criminal cases against the former President in written appeals for her clients.
One such client is California Rep. Adam Schiff, who led the impeachment process against Mr. Trump in Congress and notes the prosecution in fundraising emails. Schiff’s emails state that criminal charges against a former US President are unprecedented, and he employs this fact as a political attack. Similarly, another Merchan client, the Senate Majority PAC, also refers to the indictments in fundraising efforts and has amassed almost $74 million doing so.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s spokesperson, said Ms. Merchan is “actively making money from this sham.” He added that bias against Mr. Trump is evident and called upon Judge Merchan to “do the right thing” and recuse himself from the case.
Before the trial began on April 15, Trump’s attorneys wrote to Judge Merchan saying his daughter’s work presents a potential conflict of interest, and as such, the Judge should stand aside. The letter was sent on the day Judge Merchan expanded a gagging order imposed on Trump to cover court officials’ family members. The former President was prohibited from speaking publicly about attorneys, witnesses, court staff, and jurors, but Merchan said this should also apply to their relatives. Trump’s attorneys objected to the mandate, saying it violated their client’s Constitutional rights.
The order was extended after Mr. Trump took to social media to claim that Merchan was compromised because his daughter had tweeted an image of him behind prison bars. Ms. Merchan insisted the account was not hers and she had not posted the picture.
New York Judge Juan Merchan is a Democrat who donated to President Biden’s campaign in 2020.
