(ProsperNews.net) – US District Court Judge Timothy Kelly has ordered the expedition of a briefing schedule to litigate whether tapes of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur should be released. House Republicans subpoenaed recordings of the interview in February, but the Department of Justice refused to hand them over, saying they had already met the requirements of Congressional investigations into the Biden family by providing transcripts.
In light of the refusal, Republican Reps. James Comer of Kentucky and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio threatened to file contempt of Congress citations against Attorney General Merrick Garland, and three organizations filed Freedom of Information Requests demanding copies of the tapes. The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, Judicial Watch, and CNN all requested the recordings, and attorney Kyle Brosnan, representing the Heritage Foundation, insisted it was in the public interest to hear them promptly.
Judicial Watch accused the Justice Department of engaging in a “cover-up” and concealing recordings that Republicans contend will reveal the President’s cognitive frailty.
The story unfolded when Special Counsel Hur interviewed the President as part of an investigation into his handling of classified documents. Mr. Hur’s subsequent report provoked outrage from both sides of the political aisle after he concluded that he would not bring charges because a jury would perceive the President as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Democrats condemned the remarks as gratuitous, and President Biden reacted with fury, particularly to comments that he did not remember when his son Beau died. At a press conference, a visibly angry President Biden asked, “How in the hell dare he raise that?” before adding, “It was none of their damn business.”
Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed Hur’s report as “inaccurate and inappropriate,” but Republicans said it proved Biden was not competent to hold the land’s highest office. Some asked how a man deemed unfit to face criminal charges could be considered fit to be President of the United States.
