Joe Biden’s Gun Control Speech Riddled with Errors

(ProsperNews.net) – Critics say President Biden made numerous factual errors during a speech on gun control in Washington, DC. The President spoke at an event hosted by gun control advocacy group Everytown immediately after a jury convicted his son, Hunter Biden, on charges including unlawful weapons possession.

Social media commentators quickly pointed out untrue points in Biden’s speech, including his assertions that he was previously a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and that he taught a course in Second Amendment law—neither of which is true.

Furthermore, the President wrongly stated that it was unlawful to own a cannon during the Civil War. Experts say the only laws that ever applied to cannons regulated when they could be fired and where gunpowder should be stored. In an article published in the Journal on Legislation earlier this year, David Kopel and Joseph Greenlee wrote that there is a “near-complete absence” of anti-cannon laws in American legislative history.

Mr. Kopel, who teaches law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, said Biden’s claims about cannons were “patently false.”

The President repeated many of his typical arguments for gun control during his speech and reportedly misquoted Thomas Jefferson when he said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” The President quoted, “The blood of liberty washes those,” followed by, “Give me a break.”

At one point during his address, Biden was heckled by an audience member accusing him of complicity in “genocide” in the Middle East. Biden conceded that children were dying in Gaza, and the heckler had raised a valid point.

Some critics mocked the President for delivering an anti-gun speech just hours after his son’s conviction, with one Twitter user saying, “We live in a clown world.” Michigan Rep. Lisa McClain said it was “ironic,” but President Biden insisted he accepted the jury’s verdict in Delaware, which did not influence his gun control stance.
