January 6 Committee Democrats Fear Trump Might Jail Them

(ProsperNews.net) – Members of the committee established to investigate the events of January 6, 2021, say they fear going to prison if Donald Trump is re-elected. On his Truth Social media account, Trump said the committee’s chair, Liz Cheney, “should go to jail” along with the rest of its members. He made the remarks as revelations emerged that the panel omitted and concealed evidence about Trump’s actions on the day of the Capitol Hill riots.

In March, for example, released transcripts showed that witnesses testified that Mr. Trump did not commander a vehicle to drive to the riots, as claimed by former aide Cassidy Hutchinson. The committee did not allow the testimony. Furthermore, its final report stated there was no evidence that Trump called for 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the Capitol, even though Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato testified that he did.

Committee members recently said they are concerned that Trump will “weaponize” the Justice Department to punish them for finding him guilty of insurrection and recommending prosecutions. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar said he takes the possibility seriously, while Rep. Adam Schiff, a fierce Trump critic, explained that he has spoken to his wife about what he considers a sober threat from the former President.

A spokeswoman for Donald Trump said the former committee’s “entire narrative is a lie.” She said its members deliberately lied to America and covered up evidence that proved Mr. Trump did not engage in insurrection, adding that the US public understands that “Joe Biden is the true threat to democracy.”

Speculation that Trump will punish his enemies if re-elected has been rife over the past year. Last summer, former federal prosecutor Ankush Khardori said one-time members of the Trump administration told him the GOP candidate spoke of pursuing enemies during his first term in office and is likely to follow through in his second. Geoffrey Berman, Trump’s US Attorney in Manhattan said, “The prospect of a second Trump administration frightens me.”
