(ProsperNews.net) – The Congressional committee that investigated the events of January 6, 2021, concealed the fact that Donald Trump requested 10,000 National Guard troops to protect Capitol buildings. Led by former Wyoming Rep. and fierce Trump critic Liz Cheney, the committee’s report blamed Donald Trump for the riots and referred the matter to the Department of Justice with a prosecution recommendation.
The committee additionally stated that there was “no evidence” the former President pressed for National Guard presence, as he claimed. However, a new report contains a transcribed committee interview during which then-Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato said he overheard White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows ask DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to utilize the National Guard to protect the city.
The report, published by The Federalist, noted that Liz Chaney was in attendance when Ornato made the claim. Mr. Ornato furthermore stated that Donald Trump recommended that 10,000 National Guard personnel be present in the nation’s capital on January 6, The Federalist claims.
The debate on whether Trump urged the presence of troops has been ongoing since the establishment of the January 6 committee. Mr. Trump continually insisted that requiring the National Guard’s presence provided evidence that he did not support nor condone the violence that erupted on the day, but anti-Trump political and media figures repeatedly denied his claims.
Writing in The Federalist, Mollie Ziegler Hemingway said that the committee not only suppressed Mr. Ornato’s testimony, but initiated a smear campaign to damage his credibility.
On March 8 this year, the House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk released a statement saying Ornato’s testimony proved “what Mr. Meadows said all along,” namely, that Donald Trump did offer National Guard protection, but this was turned down.
Loudermilk argued that the January 6 committee suppressed that information because it contradicted what it wanted the American people to believe. He added that this was just one example of false anti-Trump narratives on Capitol Hill.
