(ProsperNews.net) – A conservative legal group, America First Legal Foundation (AFL), began an investigation on Monday into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s connections with China. The group is concerned about Walz’s long history of ties to the country, raising questions about national security now that he is the Democratic nominee for Vice President.
AFL sent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the Minnesota governor’s office, the FBI, and the Department of Justice. They are seeking documents about Walz’s travels to China and his connections through his professional and academic work. The group believes these ties could pose a national security risk, especially now that Walz will be receiving classified briefings as a vice-presidential candidate.
Michael Ding, a lawyer for AFL, wrote in a letter to the FBI, “If there’s any chance Gov. Walz could be influenced by China, either knowingly or unknowingly, the American people deserve to know before the election.”
Walz’s relationship with China has come under more scrutiny since Vice President Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate. Over the years, Walz has visited China more than 30 times, starting in the 1980s. During his time in Congress, he also worked with China’s Macao Polytechnic University. This university is known for promoting loyalty to China. In August, the House Oversight Committee, led by Republicans, also launched an investigation into Walz’s ties to China. So far, the FBI has not responded to these inquiries.
In their request to the governor’s office, AFL asked for any documents related to China’s Confucius Institutes, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and any communication with China’s Ministry of Education or the Beijing Genomics Institute.
AFL lawyer Robert Crossin stated, “The American people need to know if Gov. Walz has been using his position to help China and the CCP, which tries to influence U.S. lawmakers to support policies that benefit China.”
AFL also requested communications involving the Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota, expressing concerns that its partnerships with Chinese institutions, including the Wuhan Institute of Virology, may pose a national security threat.
