Casey Boonstra, originally from Australia, lives in a $5,000-a-month apartment overlooking the Hollywood sign and eats in some of LA’s most luxurious restaurants. She started as a model and said that before OnlyFans, she lived from “paycheck to paycheck.”
Desiree Schlotz is 26 and from Minnesota; she earned $10,000 a year before she joined the adult site. “I am now making seven figures annually,” she said. Desiree also started as a model in her teens and worked for various tanning salons in her home state before moving to LA in 2018. She now lives in a $6,000-a-month apartment in Beverly Hills.
Canadian Carly Sutherland Lawrence was the third to tell the LA Times her story. Carly was a bartender doing occasional modeling work before OnlyFans and now lives in a plush West Hollywood home.
The site took off during the coronavirus pandemic, and its success has continued. It is a social media platform where customers pay to see women in various states of undress and adult scenarios. Actress Bella Thorne said she made $2 million in her first two weeks on the platform and wants to share her experiences through a movie.
“OnlyFans is the first platform where I can fully control my image, without censorship, without judgment, and without being bullied online for being me,” she said. Thorne hoped to work with director Sean Baker to depict how the website can transform the lives of working class women, but Baker turned her down, saying online sites such as OnlyFans were harming the traditional pornographic industry.
According to Statista.com, OnlyFans revenue grew by billions of dollars between 2019 and 2022. Parent company Fenix International Limited, based in London, reported revenue of $5.5 billion in 2022 – an increase of 16% on the previous year. When it launched in 2016, it generated around $300 million.
