(ProsperNews.net) – A surveillance video has emerged showing migrants attacking New York Police Department (NYPD) officers in Times Square, and reports confirm that the migrants were later released without bail. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, February 3, on West 42nd Street in Manhattan, and the video shows an altercation developing after an NYPD officer and lieutenant tried to move people from the area. At one point, a scuffle broke out, and police were seen subduing a suspect on the ground. The migrant group kicked the officers before fleeing.
They were all arrested a short time later and identified as 19-year-old Andres Gomez Izquiel, 19-year-old Kelvin Servat Arocha, 21-year-old Wilson Juarez, 22-year-old Jhoan Boada, and 24-year-old Yorman Reveron. All were charged with assault and set free.
The police officers, who have not been identified, suffered minor injuries, including bruising and cuts to the face, and were treated at the scene. One of the suspects, Yorman Reveron, reportedly has two open criminal cases against him after allegedly punching and kicking a store employee who intervened to prevent him from shoplifting. He is also accused of punching a store security officer in the Macy’s department store.
Responding to the fact that the suspects were freed, Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Hendry said it is “impossible” for officers to deal with crime and disorder in a justice system that won’t protect them. “Attacks on police officers are becoming an epidemic, and the reason is a revolving door we’re seeing in cases like this one,” he said.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the Times Square attackers should be detained and returned to their home countries. “Get them all and send them back,” she remarked. The Democrat later appeared to backtrack somewhat and suggest that deportation should be “looked into.”
A police spokesperson confirmed that all suspects in the attack were migrants but did not confirm how they entered the US or how long they had been in the country.
