Immigrant Voices Concerns Over Insufficient Welfare and Aid

(ProsperNews.net) – An illegal immigrant has complained that New York has not lived up to expectations and has not provided enough resources. Yaniry Pena traveled to the US from the Dominican Republic. She started out in El Salvador and then embarked on a journey that lasted more than a month. In a tearful interview, Pena said she was “traumatized” by her experiences in America and by the fact that promises were not fulfilled.

The illegal migrant crossed the southern border last year and was sent to live in Upstate New York, where taxpayers funded her hotel room for four months. Pena subsequently moved into a free duplex apartment, where she complained about the quality of the refrigerator and had it replaced. When asked through a translator if she liked America, Pena said she does, but not Rochester. “Everything that has been told to us to come to Monroe County, to Rochester, hasn’t been fulfilled,” the translator explained.

Pena has been in the United States for a year but still has no work permit and depends on the taxpayer. In March, New York’s Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul said the state would pay more to house and feed migrants and projected an extra $2.4 billion in spending in a March budget proposal. The Empire State spent $1.9 billion on illegal immigrants in 2023.

The Governor called for more housing construction throughout the state, describing the need as “urgent.” She also proposed more taxes on existing housing, which will drive up costs in what is already the most expensive state in America. A report in mid-May on the nation’s rental markets named New York the highest-cost state, with an average price of $4,280 per month. In second place is New Jersey, which is more than $1,000 cheaper at $3,250.

New York’s taxpayers not only provide free accommodation to migrants but also three meals per day, medical and dental care, laundry services, cell phones, legal services, clothing, housekeeping, transportation, and toys for children.
