(ProsperNews.net) – Prosecutors have charged an illegal immigrant over the death of an 11-year-old boy in Missouri. Endrina Bracho crashed head-on into a car in Hazelwood in December 2023, killing Travis Wolfe, days before his 12th birthday. Bracho allegedly sped down the wrong side of a highway, traveling 70 mph in a 40-mile zone. The child initially survived the accident but died in hospital on March 6. His parents were treated for broken bones.
A GoFundMe campaign established by Andrea DeWeese to support the family stated, “Travis was taken off life support. He will be forever remembered as a funny kid with a huge heart and a love for Blues Hockey.”
Bracho, from Venezuela, is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree child endangerment, and operating a vehicle without a license. She is held in a St. Louis jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
Republican Missouri Senator Josh Hawley blamed the Biden administration’s immigration policies for the tragedy and tweeted, “This is what an open border does.”
Nevertheless, Hazelwood police Sgt. Scott Schnurbusch said the suspect’s immigration status was irrelevant to investigations beyond making it more challenging to identify the parties involved. There were two children in the car driven by Bracho, but they sustained only minor injuries.
The case adds to a growing list of deaths and injuries that Republicans firmly blame on an open US southern border. A North Carolina-based law firm that specializes in vehicle incidents states that illegal immigrants are disproportionately implicated in fatal car accidents. Additionally, they tend to flee the scene out of fear of deportation.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) says that 20% of nationwide car crashes involve drivers who do not have a valid license, and in states with the highest illegal immigrant levels, 14.6% of fatalities involve unlicensed drivers. Hit-and-run incidents are also disproportionately high in states with large immigrant numbers, as are incidents involving uninsured drivers.
