Ilhan Omar’s Daughter Barred from Campus Facilities After Anti-Israel Protest

(ProsperNews.net) – Isra Hirsi, the daughter of controversial Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, was among more than 100 students hauled away from Columbia University for participating in anti-Israel demonstrations. The protests broke out on April 17 and reportedly included chants calling for the death of Jews. College officials ordered the “Gaza solidarity encampment” be dismantled, but students carried on regardless, prompting a police response and the arrest of dozens of protestors.

The 21-year-old, whose mother has faced allegations of antisemitism and anti-Americanism throughout her Congressional career, was subsequently suspended from Barnard College and later complained that this left her without food or shelter.

Conservatives mocked the student, who had previously described herself as “super-woke” and confessed to policing the views of her fellow students. Megyn Kelly stated she had no sympathy for Hirsi because she had deliberately made herself a public face of the demonstrations.

Nevertheless, Rep. Omar said she was “enormously proud” of her daughter, adding that she has “always led with courage and compassion.” Omar noted that Isra has previously participated in a school walkout over gun violence and a youth climate change rally and had now stepped up to “stand against genocide.”

Demonstrators at Columbia gathered to demand that the school divest from any company or institution that “profits” from trading with Israel, whom they accuse of conducting genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. College President Minouche Shafik announced that all classes will be taught remotely until further notice to “deescalate the rancor” on campus.

Shafik faced calls for her resignation after testifying to Congress that she had suspended 15 students amid antisemitism concerns and was committed to tackling growing anti-Jewish sentiment.

Republicans, led by Elise Stefanik, who advocated the departure of former Harvard President Claudine Gay, were unconvinced. Following her testimony, they wrote to Shafik saying they had no faith in her commitment to ending antisemitism and calling on her to step down.

During her testimony, Shafik admitted that chants calling for the death of Jews were indeed antisemitic.
