(ProsperNews.net) – Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney has warned that the United States is under threat if the GOP wins a Congressional majority in 2024. In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning with John Dickerson, Cheney described loyalty to Donald Trump as a cult of personality and rejected the notion that a person must support Trump to be considered a true conservative. “I think that the most conservative of all conservative values is fidelity to the Constitution,” she said before adding that following Trump is the “opposite of conservative.”
Pursuing the topic, Dickerson asked the former Wyoming Representative if it was possible to follow the Constitution and support Donald Trump. “No, that is inconsistent,” she replied. While avoiding stating directly that she would prefer a Democrat majority on Capitol Hill, she declared that Republican control would threaten America’s future.
In a separate interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, Cheney expanded on her views and hinted that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has “a lot to hide.” She said Jordan played a crucial role in Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election and described him as “one of the masterminds.”
The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney served in the House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She voted to impeach Donald Trump in 2021 and explicitly blamed him for the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6; she subsequently lost the GOP Wyoming primaries and her seat in the House of Representatives.
Cheney recently published a book “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning” in which she calls on Americans to do all they can to prevent Trump’s return to the Oval Office next year. She also said that unless the Republican party can move away from the influence of the former President, a new political party should be formed to represent conservative Americans who reject Trump. The “tectonic plates of our politics are shifting,” she declared.
