(ProsperNews.net) – The President’s embattled son, Hunter Biden, is expected to testify to the House Oversight Committee in December. He offered to respond in person to a subpoena issued by the Committee as part of its investigations into his financial and business affairs.
Hunter Biden condemned the process as a “fishing expedition” but nevertheless, said he would appear to “answer any pertinent and relevant question.” Committee chairman, Republican Rep. James Comer, issued a subpoena to Mr. Biden in early November, requiring his response on December 13.
“We expect full cooperation with our subpoena for a deposition but also agree that Hunter Biden should have the opportunity to testify in a public setting,” Comer said. The President’s brother, James Biden, was subpoenaed on the same day.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, described the Republican probe as an “empty investigation” wasting government resources. She told the Oversight Committee that the only thing they would learn from her client’s testimony was that the allegations were baseless, but added that the American people need to see that for themselves.
The House Oversight Committee is seeking evidence to support a potential impeachment of President Biden. Its members believe that the President traded influence for cash and profited by tens of millions of dollars. The Committee believes that some of the alleged influence-peddling occurred while Biden was Vice President during the Obama administration.
Just one day after Biden’s inauguration, Georgian Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene pioneered the first attempt at impeachment. Rep. Taylor Greene’s impeachment articles referred to one of the most contentious allegations against President Biden: that he conspired to sack a prosecutor in Ukraine who was investigating a gas company called Burisma. Hunter Biden sat on Burisma’s board of directors and was paid handsomely for his contribution.
Kevin McCarthy, the former House Speaker, directed the Judiciary Committee, the Oversight Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee to open a formal impeachment probe last September, and new Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated he intends to follow this up.
