(ProsperNews.net) – Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Corey Comperatore in Pennsylvania and waved US flags in his honor. Comparative died on July 13 when he was struck by a bullet aimed at former President Donald Trump. The 50-year-old died as he shielded his daughters from the would-be assassin.
Police officers and other law enforcement officials attended the funeral as hundreds of local people shed tears, and musician Billy Ray Cyrus performed after meeting Mr. Comperatore’s family.
At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Donald Trump paid tribute to Comperatore and brought his Buffalo Township fire department uniform on stage.
Mr. Comperatore served ten years in the US Army before joining the Buffalo Township fire department in the early 2000s. Tributes described him as a loving father, family man, and devout church-going Christian.
The firefighter was one of three people injured when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired his rifle from a roof overlooking a Trump rally in the Keystone State. Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson’s nephew was also hurt, though the Congressman said this was not serious. David Dutch, a 57-year-old New Kensington native, sustained two gunshot wounds that caused significant damage to his chest and liver. Mr. Dutch, a US Marine Corps veteran, underwent abdominal surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma.
James Copenhaver, a 74-year-old from Moon Township, was seriously injured and later made a statement to reporters about a phone call he received from Donald Trump. A spokesperson for the Copenhaver family said Trump was “very pleasant” and “respectful.” The statement thanked first responders and medical staff and said Mr. Copenhaver’s “thoughts and prayers for the other victims, their families, and President Trump. He prays for a safe and speedy recovery for them all.”
Meanwhile, during a hearing in Congress, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said the incident was her agency’s most significant operational failure for decades and said she took full responsibility for the security lapse. Nevertheless, she resisted calls for her resignation.
