(ProsperNews.net) – In a chilling case out of Colorado, police have revealed disturbing new details about human remains found in a freezer after a home changed ownership. The remains, specifically a head and hands, have been identified as those of Amanda Leariel Overstreet, who was just 16 years old when she disappeared in 2005. Shockingly, Overstreet had never been reported missing, despite her biological connection to the home’s previous owners.
The grim discovery was made in January when the new owners of the house in Grand Junction were clearing out their property. While cleaning, they stumbled upon the remains in a freezer hidden beneath frozen meat. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office launched a homicide investigation, eventually identifying Overstreet as the victim.
Overstreet’s remains had been in the home for nearly two decades, yet no one had reported her disappearance. Police have yet to identify a suspect in the case, and the investigation remains active. Authorities have not disclosed whether the previous homeowner, described as a man caring for his elderly mother, is being treated as a suspect. The rest of Overstreet’s body has yet to be located.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office emphasized that the current homeowners are in no way connected to the crime, urging the public to respect their privacy. The home on Pinyon Avenue was remodeled and sold to the new owners, and authorities asked people not to disturb the neighborhood by driving by or taking photos.
A neighbor recalled the unsettling moment when a witness used her bathroom and revealed the gruesome discovery. The remains, she said, had fallen out of a black plastic bag in the freezer. Police video from the scene showed investigators in hazmat suits as they processed the crime scene.
As the investigation continues, many questions remain unanswered, particularly surrounding how Overstreet went missing and why her death remained hidden for so long.
