(ProsperNews.net) – House Republicans have put forward legislation that would send anti-Israel activists convicted of a crime to Gaza for six months. Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, supported by Rep. Randy Weber of Texas and Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, introduced the bill in response to ongoing college campus protests against the Jewish state and its war with the designated terrorist organization Hamas.
Some protests have ended in violent clashes with police, which the GOP lawmakers say should be punished with a sentence in the Gaza Strip. The bill doesn’t mention Israel but targets college protests that have occurred since October 7 last year – the date of the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians.
Rep. Ogles told reporters that the activists were responsible for disrupting college classes, harassing other students, and causing the cancellation of graduation ceremonies. He added that those convicted should spend six months performing community service in Gazan communities.
In a separate bill, Rep. Ogles also called for the deportation of foreign students involved in the demonstrations. He said the ability to receive an American education is a privilege that can be revoked. The Republican added that many US institutions had mistakenly opened their doors to terrorism sympathizers. Mr. Ogles advised foreign Hamas supporters that they may be happier studying in countries other than the US and suggested Qatar, Iran, or Gaza as alternatives.
Donald Trump publicly agrees with Rep. Ogles’ stance and has promised to deport anti-Israel students if he is elected in November. Speaking at a New Jersey rally, the former President said anyone who “brings jihadism or anti-Americanism or antisemitism” to the United States will be forced to pack their bags and go home.
Florida’s Senator Marco Rubio offered his support for the policy, saying those who tear down American flags or statues of historic figures should have their visas revoked.
Police across the country have arrested around 2,000 people since the protests began at New York’s Columbia University in April.
