House Approves GOP Bill Prohibiting Biden’s Control Over Home Appliances

(ProsperNews.net) – A bill to curb the Biden administration’s plans to ban some household appliances has passed through the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act was approved by 212 votes to 195 and obliges the Department of Energy (DOE) to consider the cost-effectiveness of its policies on everyday domestic appliances. All Republicans and seven Democrats passed the legislation.

Rep. Debbie Lesko of Arizona, who introduced the bill, said she did not expect there would be a need for such legislation, but the Biden administration has “unleashed an avalanche” of regulation on essential appliances and machinery, ranging from toilets to heat pumps to vehicles. She said no “government bureaucrat” should be permitted to regulate people’s private domestic purchases “in the name of a radical environmental agenda.”

Some conservative groups have documented what many describe as the Biden administration’s “war on your appliances.” Activists argue that the Department of Energy is using regulation to impose radical changes in American domestic life because it allows bureaucrats to sidestep Congress, which would likely not approve the measures.

For instance, DOE proposals on gas stoves means that the vast majority – around 90% – will not meet new criteria and will need to be replaced, at great cost to the American household. Some figures estimate that consumers will pay out $32 million more for stoves every year, with minimal associated energy savings.

A new tailpipe rule means that around two-thirds of vehicle sales would have to be electric by 2032, causing a significant financial hit to millions of motorists.

The Energy and Commerce Committee furiously accuses the Biden administration of sending domestic expenses through the roof and inflating the costs of purchasing and running appliances while not achieving the government’s objective of reducing energy prices.

The Committee has pointed out that these extra expenses are incurred while American families are already under pressure thanks to inflation, which it described as failed “Bidenomics.”
