(ProsperNews.net) – Former US Secretary of State and Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has criticized her party for underestimating the anti-abortion movement and for complacency in failing to prevent the overturn of Roe v Wade. The Democrat added that fellow progressives still do not realize they are in an “existential” battle for America’s future.
In an interview to discuss an upcoming book, Clinton criticized Democrats for two significant reasons. The first was their failure to codify abortion rights into law because they did not believe that the Supreme Court would overturn the landmark Roe v Wade ruling. Secondly, Mrs. Clinton lambasted Democratic Senators for not challenging Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, whose presence on the bench ensured Roe’s demise. She said they were dishonest during their Senate confirmation hearings, and Democrat Senators did nothing about it.
Clinton is not the first to insist that the Justices lied in their hearings. In 2022, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that they should face impeachment, while Senator Susan Collins said the shock ruling was “inconsistent” with the Justices’ Senate confirmation hearing testimony.
During the same interview, Clinton speculated about why she lost to Donald Trump in 2016 and said it was partly because women turned their backs on her. She said women rejected her because she wasn’t “perfect,” and they weren’t willing to take a risk on her despite the long list of Trump’s flaws. The former Senator added that younger women did not understand the importance of Roe and took their rights for granted.
Perhaps most sensationally, Secretary Clinton warned that if Trump wins in November, the US may never have another election. She said if that happens, America faces a future dominated by a small right-wing religious force that will turn back the clock on women. Mrs. Clinton noted that her warnings may sound “out there,” but she believes history will eventually prove her right. “I don’t take any comfort in that,” she added.
