(ProsperNews.net) – Harry Potter author JK Rowling has seen profits in her publishing company surge, despite attempts by left-wing activists to boycott her work. The British author’s company Pottermore publishing made $11.9 million in the fiscal year 2023, up from $7 million the previous year.
Rowling has been subject to several high-profile boycott campaigns due to her position on radical gender ideology. The writer is unapologetic in her views and has repeatedly maintained that men cannot transition into women. For this, she and her family have endured several death threats, some of which prompted a police response.
In one incident, trans activists posted the author’s address online, and a protest outside her home soon followed. The protestors subsequently took a photo of themselves outside her home, prompting further concern about her safety and privacy. Ms. Rowling insisted, however, that no amount of intimidation would silence her.
The author campaigned for bathrooms to remain single-gender and said opening up female restrooms was an invitation for predators to prey on women and girls.
In her home country, Rowling suffered a staggering backlash for her stance. The well-known charity Oxfam was forced to remove a social media post that depicted the author as an angry “Terf,” – which stands for Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist and is applied to people who oppose trans ideology in the name of protecting female rights.
A school in southern England, which had named one of its houses after the best-selling writer, changed the name in 2022 in protest at Rowling’s views. The principal of the Boswells School in Chelmsford, Essex, said, “We foster a vibrant, inclusive, and democratic school community, where we encourage students to develop into independent, confident citizens.” The house was subsequently renamed Holmes, in recognition of black British athlete Kelly Holmes.
Despite the threats against such a high-profile British figure, no UK politicians or mainstream media commentators spoke out in her defense or condemned the intimidation and threats.
