(ProsperNews.net) – Perhaps as a sign that her own platform is severely lacking despite the signs of growing enthusiasm from Democratic voters since becoming their presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris is copying one of former President Donald Trump’s campaign promises.
Harris made a campaign stop in Nevada for a Las Vegas rally on Saturday, Aug. 10, and promised to do away with the tax on tips for service workers. During her speech, she acknowledged the Culinary Union Local 226 present at the rally and then vowed that if elected to the White House she would try to raise the minimum wage while also eliminating tip taxes for workers in the service and hospitality industry.
Her announcement comes just a couple of months after Trump made the same exact promise at a campaign rally in June in Las Vegas. Trump vowed that there would be no tax on tips if he returned to office. He made the promise again later that month at an event in Michigan at an African-American church, and has repeated the campaign promise at every rally since. He says to tell all the waiters, caddies, car attendants, and others getting tips that it will “immediately” come off as soon as he’s reelected.
Harris gave the culinary union a shout-out and said that “everyone in Nevada knows” the union led the way for rights and dignity for workers. The vice president said she was “proud” to work by their side “for years” as California Attorney General to “crackdown on wage theft” and then in the US Senate to fight for family leave and medical leave. Harris promised to continue fighting “for working families” if elected president by raising the minimum wage and eliminating tip taxes.
Trump mocked Harris after she made the announcement, accusing her of only doing it for “political purposes.” The former president said her “honeymoon period” was coming to an end and that she copies his policy because she’s been getting “hammered in the polls.” He accused Harris of having “no ideas” and said she can only steal from him. Trump claimed the difference between his promise and hers is that “she won’t do it” while he actually will.
