(ProsperNews.net) – While commenting on the 2024 presidential race, former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley criticized her party’s reaction to the rising momentum of Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign in the battleground states.
Haley made an appearance on Fox News’s “Special Report” on Tuesday, Aug. 13, and told anchor Bret Baier that former President Donald Trump and the GOP should focus more on messaging and their policy platform than on rally crowd sizes or attacks on her character and intelligence. Haley said the party “can’t win on those things.”
The former South Carolina governor said that Americans “are smart” and should be treated as such. Haley said it wasn’t about Harris but “about the American people.” She told Trump and her party to focus on talking to them and letting them know why their vote is needed. Ultimately, she urged Republicans to stop “whining” about the vice president and “complaining” about her avoidance of sitting down for a formal interview since entering the race following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal as the Democratic candidate.
Haley said Republicans “knew” Harris would replace Biden at some point and said she won’t have a formal interview anytime soon, but will “hold out” as long as possible. The former GOP candidate said that was “their right” and just because the Democratic Party does it “doesn’t mean [Republicans] can’t talk about what she believes in.” Haley said the party needs to focus on Harris’ campaign messaging and what she represents.
Haley then mentioned illegal immigration and said she takes Harris “at her word” when she talks about allowing illegals to vote and receive driver’s licenses; and that she “wants to ban fracking” and eliminate jobs in the process. Haley said others should also “take her at her word.” She also advised focusing on certain voter demographics, such as independents, conservative-leaning Democrats, moderate Republicans, and suburban women.
According to Haley, the “target issues” the GOP needs to home in on are the economy, Harris’ call to raise taxes, forgiving student loans for borrowers by “taking money” from Americans who didn’t attend college, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and other issues. She said the GOP needs to point out that Harris sat next to Biden “in the Situation Room” through all of that.
Haley ran against Trump in the primaries and initially refused to endorse him after dropping out. She has since come out in support of him and said he “knows how to win.”
