(ProsperNews.net) – Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley lost the support of the influential Americans for Prosperity (AFP) group following her defeat in South Carolina. A statement from AFP, funded by the billionaire Koch brothers, said the group no longer believes it can help Haley to the White House, and while it still supports her, it will not provide further funding.
Regarding the financial blow, Nikki Haley said AFP had been an excellent partner, but she is unconcerned about their decision. She told reporters that her campaign raised a million dollars in the 24 hours following her defeat in her home state, and this was evidence she still has support from GOP backers who do not want another Donald Trump Presidency.
Americans for Prosperity gave Nikki Haley a significant boost last year and arranged an ad campaign on her behalf. The group is anti-Trump and wants America to move on from his leadership, but Haley has so far failed to make a significant dent in the former President’s popularity. She lost her home state with 39.5% of the vote to Donald Trump’s 59.8%.
Despite records showing that many contenders pull out after losing their own state, Haley immediately said she would remain in the race. For example, Elizabeth Warren withdrew when she lost Massachusetts in 2020, as did Marco Rubio following his defeat in Florida.
Some commentators, however, suggest Haley is staying in because she believes Trump will not make it to the finish line. British political expert John Bowden wrote that the former Palmetto State Governor has a clear strategy to wait and see if Trump’s legal battles and financial problems bring his campaign crashing down.
