Governor Hochul Called Out by ICE After Fugitive Arrest

(ProsperNews.net) – ICE Buffalo Field Office Director Thomas Brophy has sharply criticized New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s immigration policies following the arrest of a Brazilian national wanted for multiple crimes. The individual, apprehended by ICE agents, faces charges in the U.S., including strangulation and endangering a child, as well as an active homicide investigation in Brazil.

Brophy reaffirmed ICE’s commitment to public safety, vowing to continue operations despite opposition from state and local officials. “We will not be deterred by politicians putting votes over protecting the citizens of this nation,” Brophy stated. He argued that sanctuary policies, like those in New York, obstruct law enforcement and create dangerous environments by limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on criminal migrants in the Buffalo area, with this case marking the second such arrest in recent days. ICE has emphasized that its efforts prioritize removing individuals who pose significant risks to public safety and national security.

Governor Hochul’s state has become a focal point in the immigration debate, particularly as New York City has seen an influx of over 220,000 migrants since 2022. Sanctuary policies in the state have been a point of contention, with officials like Manuel Castro, New York’s commissioner of migrant affairs, pledging to resist federal deportation efforts under the incoming Trump administration.

Brophy warned that such resistance undermines public safety, citing cases like the recent arrest as evidence of the risks posed by criminal migrants shielded by sanctuary laws. He called on state officials to prioritize the safety of their communities over political considerations.

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to reinstate strict immigration measures, with a focus on deporting individuals who pose threats to national security and public safety. Incoming “border czar” Tom Homan has vowed to use federal resources aggressively to enforce these policies, with ICE expected to play a central role in their implementation.

As tensions between federal and state immigration policies continue to escalate, Brophy’s remarks highlight the challenges ICE faces in navigating political opposition while carrying out its mission to protect American communities.
