Government Offers Work Permits and Legal Aid for Immigrants

(ProsperNews.net) – New migration rules negotiated on Capitol Hill would reward illegal immigrants and encourage more migration, according to the Immigration Accountability Project. Chris Chmielenski, leader of the project, said Democrats have played Republicans and duped them into agreeing to an immigration increase. “The Republicans went to the auto shop to get their car fixed and walked out with a broken cup holder,” he said.

The new deal would grant 50,000 more green cards every year, provide work permits to the adult children of H-1B holders and every illegal immigrant released from custody, provide taxpayer-funded attorneys to specified migrant groups, grant expulsion authority only if daily numbers exceed 5,000, and restrict parole for those who enter between ports of entry.

The draft arrangement is the result of weeks of negotiations in the Senate aimed at reducing illegal immigration, which Republicans say is necessary to win their support for Ukraine and Israel funding and avoiding a government shutdown in March.

Some concessions to Republicans, however, include a promise to make asylum claims harder and make deportation to Mexico easier.

Nevertheless, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has warned his fellow Republicans against the deal and said Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell intends to “sell out” and continue “to allow illegal immigration.”

Paul said McConnell is closely aligned with President Biden on Ukrainian funding and that he cares more about Ukraine than securing the US border. The Senator told Fox News that McConnell eagerly wants to send billions of taxpayer dollars to Kyiv while Americans struggle.

Parole route migration is a significant sticking point in negotiations, as Democrats seek to expand it and Republicans want a cap on numbers. Parole allows migrants who would not qualify for a visa under normal circumstances to live and work in the US for up to two years while they await the result of visa applications. Republicans say the parole pathway has brought millions of migrants to America since Biden entered the White House.
