GOP State Official Questions Biden’s Attempt to Enroll

(ProsperNews.net) – Mississippi’s Secretary of State has written to the Department of Justice (DOJ) asking it to stop the continued enforcement of a Biden executive order that facilitates the voting registration of convicts and illegal immigrants. Michael Watson accused the DOJ of turning away from its traditional law enforcement role and toward “voter registration and get out the vote operations” and said this resulted from the application of Executive Order 14019.

President Biden signed the order in 2021 as part of his commitment to ensuring and expanding voting rights across racial groups. The order tasks state agencies with informing people about their right to vote and how to exercise it.

Mr. Watson claims that the mandate “forces” US Marshals to “modify agreements with jails” and leads to “the potential registration of ineligible prisoners to vote.” He told Fox News that he doesn’t believe the Biden administration is concerned about who is voting or whether they are legally eligible.

Speaking to local radio after sending his letter to the President, Mr. Watson said registering ineligible voters is an intrusion into state affairs and breaches Mississippi laws. He also stated that, in his opinion, individuals who undertake the registration are unlikely to be conservatives and will “target” potential Democrat votes. The Secretary of State further noted that the matter is “urgent” because illegal immigrants are pouring through the southern US border, and he wondered if these would be provided with voting rights in time for the Presidential election in November.

Donald Trump referred to migrant voting during a speech in January and said Democrats want high migrant numbers because they believe they will gain their electoral support. “They can’t speak a word of English for the most part, but they’re signing them up,” the former President claimed while speaking to supporters in Iowa.

High numbers of Iowa Republicans believe that voter fraud is frequent in America, and 41% in a 2023 poll said they think the 2020 Presidential election was rigged.
