(ProsperNews.net) – House Republicans have revealed impeachment documents against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The impeachment articles accuse Mayorkas of “Willfull and systemic refusal to comply with the law” and “breach of public trust.” The first article states that Mayorkas has repeatedly violated immigration and national security laws, resulting in the arrival of millions of illegal aliens who have unlawfully been allowed to remain.
Furthermore, Mr. Mayorkas stands accused of knowingly making false statements to Congress when he insisted that the southern border is “secure.” Additionally, he said the border was “closed” and that his department had “operational control” of migration. The GOP claims it has a “clear, compelling, and irrefutable” case against Mayorkas, with Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee stating that the facts are beyond dispute, and the Homeland Security Secretary’s behavior has been “disastrous for our country.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson told Republican lawmakers that he will hold a House-wide vote on proceeding with the impeachment as soon as possible. He said lawmakers have a Constitutional duty to proceed, but some high-profile figures do not agree.
For example, former Trump attorney Alan Dershowitz said Mayorkas does not rise to the level of impeachment because he has not committed bribery, treason, or high crimes and misdemeanors.
Secretary Mayorkas called the impeachment articles false, baseless, and inaccurate. He praised his record and said he had always been transparent.
In March 2021, Secretary Mayorkas testified to the House Homeland Security Committee and caused uproar among Republicans by stating that the southern border was “not open.”
Later, in May 2022, he repeated the claim to the House Judiciary Committee, insisting that the border was “secure.” Rep. Michael Guest clarified Mayorkas’s comments and asked him, “Are you testifying as you sit here today that the Southwest border is secure?” Mayorkas replied, “Yes, I am.” He then claimed to have “operational control” of the border, which is legally defined as the prevention of unlawful entry to the United States.
