GOP Nominee Wins Over Former ‘Never Trump’ Voters After Conviction

(ProsperNews.net) – Some voters who are so opposed to Donald Trump that they are known as “Never-Trumpers” have reportedly changed their stance since a New York jury convicted him on 34 felony counts. According to media surveys after the guilty verdict, millions of Americans see the conviction not as justice but as proof of a corrupt justice system, and many donated to Donald Trump’s campaign. Among these were so-called “Never-Trumpers” who have vehemently opposed him in the past.

One LA-based Hillary Clinton backer told reporters that he donated $300,000 to Trump immediately after he was found not guilty of falsifying business records. Shaun Maguire said hypocrisy drove him to do so, and what he described as “lawfare tactics” by the Democrats. “I believe the Republican Party is less dangerous to democracy,” he said.

Similarly, Adam Mortara, who lectures at the University of Chicago and supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, donated $3,300 and hopes that a Trump victory will demonstrate to Democrats that weaponizing the criminal justice system is not an effective strategy.

Lifelong Democrat Kate Nitti, who lives in New Jersey, was supporting Robert F. Kennedy in the race but switched to Trump after his conviction. She said she has a “huge problem” with using the law to target political adversaries.

After the guilty verdict, most voting intention polls showed little change or a boost for Donald Trump. When asked by YouGov how they felt about the trial and result, Americans gave mixed responses. On whether the jury had reached the correct verdict, 57% said it had, and 43% disagreed. This includes 96% of Democrats who said the verdict was right, 82% of Republicans who said it was wrong, and 56% of independents who believed the jury made the right call.

Opinions on the fairness of the trial varied significantly between parties, with 86% of Republicans saying it was not fair and 96% of Democrats insisting it was. Asked if Trump should serve prison time, 45% said no, and 38% said yes.
